For most of her life 16-year-old Sofia Krupchenko from the Kramatorsk district in Donetsk region has grown up in the conditions of war. She was only four when the fighting in eastern Ukraine began. Sofia and her mother Alla have always stayed close and supported each other through difficult times.
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, their town became even more dangerous. The family hesitated for a long time, but in the end made a hard decision to leave their home to stay safe and find peace. Together with their two ginger cats, they evacuated and started a new chapter without constant fear and night air raid siren.
As part of the HOPE project, the Krupchenko family spent a month in Zhytomyr region. There they received psychological support, restored their inner strength, and gradually regained a sense of stability. Specialists supported the family at every stage of adaptation and helped them find balance in new conditions.
Today Sofia and Alla are planning their next steps and looking for opportunities for the future.

HOPE is an important initiative for the most vulnerable people in regions of Ukraine that have suffered the most from the conflict. The project gives evacuated Ukrainians a chance to feel stable again, gather inner strength, and believe that even after a difficult journey, it is possible to start over.
