Love in Action: Caritas-Spes Brings Help and Hope to Victims of Recent Attacks

In a world wounded by war, two forces continue to sustain hope — love and goodness. The teams of the Emergency Appeal project embody the Christian calling every day: to be close to those who suffer, to share in their pain.

In July, the Caritas-Spes Kamianske team traveled to the Myrivska and Zatyshnianska communities to register people affected by hostilities in the past 30 days for cash assistance. The villages in these communities are constantly suffering from shelling, including attacks by FPV drones.

One of the beneficiaries shared that when a drone first struck the roof of their house, he, his son, and his wife ran to the basement. His family managed to get inside, but he was hit in the back and leg by shrapnel from a second drone. It’s hard to imagine the horror these people experienced that night.

The registration of those affected by a missile strike on the Zatyshnianska district was especially difficult—it occurred in broad daylight. One woman, who works at a shop, said she had brought her daughter to work that day because the child was on school break and there was no one to look after her. By some miracle, they survived.

In addition to cash assistance, the team supported people with hygiene kits and bedding sets. They were also accompanied by the parish priest, Fr. Adam Wrubel, who provided people with a chance to be heard and offered emotional and spiritual support.

We are sincerely grateful to the Caritas Internationalis Confederation for the opportunity to help those who need it most.
