Life often tests our resilience, but at the same time it offers a reminder: we are never truly alone. Where there is compassion, support, and sincerity, hope arises and wounds begin to heal.
Mrs. Oksana (name changed for ethical reasons) has lived her whole life in her hometown of Nikopol. Here she raised two children, here she devoted 23 years of diligent work at the local factory, here are her family and loved ones, so she remains in the city despite constant danger.
“I really love tasty treats, so that day I went to my favorite shop in the city center. As I was leaving, I heard a strange sound. When I realized it was a drone, it was already too late… There was a strike, and after feeling the blast wave and something hitting my body — I lost consciousness,” recalls Mrs. Oksana about her trip to the store.
People immediately ran to her aid, helped her regain consciousness, and called an ambulance. Doctors managed to save her arm, but ahead lies a long period of treatment and rehabilitation, which requires significant funds. That is why financial assistance through the Emergency Appeal project became an important support during this time, while a heartfelt conversation with the Caritas-Spes Nikopol team brought emotional comfort and peace of mind.
Yet Mrs. Oksana does not lose her optimism and jokes: “Now I have a broken arm and no desire to visit my favorite shop.” We hope that the kindness of people, a sincere smile, and strong faith will help Mrs. Oksana recover as soon as possible.
We are sincerely grateful to all the partners of the Caritas Internationalis Confederation who open their hearts to Ukrainians in these difficult times.
