Two cardinals visit Ukraine to attest Pope Francis’s support for Ukrainians

Pope Francis has sent two of his cardinals to Ukraine to express his solidarity with the Ukrainian nation. Yesterday, Lviv welcomed Cardinal Conrad Krajewski, the distributor of Pope’s almsgiving. Michael Czerny, serving as Under-secretary of Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, has arrived at Zakarpattia Oblast. After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Cardinal Czerny has been sent by Pope Francis to Ukraine with a humanitarian mission. Such visits attest Pope Francis’s special attitude and feeling for Ukraine. Not only is he summoning the whole world to Great Lent and prayers, but he is also providing the people suffering from the war in Ukraine with humanitarian aid.

‘Caritas-Spes Ukraine’ President has had a meeting with Cardinal Czerny and has conveyed his gratitude to Pope Francis for his pastoral care. In his turn, Cardinal Conrad Krajewski has said he is staying in the outskirts of Lviv but he has not specified the area, for safety reasons. ‘Through Poland, the European communities are sending their assistance to Ukraine. All goods get unloaded in large storehouses, with lorries heading to Kyiv, Odesa and southern Ukraine afterwards’, said Cardinal Conrad. The good news, according to him, is that ‘the assistance arrives at the destinations despite the shelling’. The bishops from Kyiv, Odesa, Kharkiv as well as the nunciatures having connections have confirmed it.
