On 9 January, Deputy Head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration Serhiy Biletsky and Bishop Oleksandr Yazlovetsky, President of the Caritas-Spes Ukraine Religious Mission, signed an official memorandum of cooperation in the humanitarian sector in the capital's region.
"During the years of our operation, we have been actively helping the residents of Kyiv region, who for various reasons found themselves in the most difficult life situation. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, our assistance has become more extensive, and this is understandable," says Executive Director Fr Vyacheslav Hrynevych SAC, “Because we must respond to the needs of people affected by the consequences of the war.
Therefore, in addition to providing various types of humanitarian aid, we are implementing a number of programmes aimed at rebuilding affected housing and ensuring the vital functions of infrastructure facilities.
Urgent humanitarian assistance is provided to residents of Kyiv region and temporarily displaced persons through such projects as HARPU, Family to Family, Pack for Ukraine, Winter Shoes and Emergency Appeal.
At the same time, three family-type homes operate in the capital region, each with 10 children.
During the past summer, we organised vacations for a group of children from socially vulnerable families with IDP status in Croatia and Italy, as well as at our center in the village of Yablunytsia, Ivano-Frankivsk region.
One of the biggest challenges that the war has posed to us has been the issue of housing, namely the need to provide temporary accommodation for internally displaced persons and the need to rebuild the war-damaged housing of local citizens.
In Vasylkivskyi rayon, we have a shelter for internally displaced citizens with a capacity of 25 people. This shelter participates in the government programme "Shelterers".
And as part of the Reconstruction Project for residents of the Bucha and Brovary districts, we were able to restore 1 social facility, install 10 modular houses and rebuild 44 private houses damaged by the hostilities.
The goal of our work is simple: to support those who are most vulnerable and cannot cope with their circumstances on their own. That is why the support of our work by the Kyiv Regional State Administration is extremely important to us, as this interaction allows us to quickly identify the needs of the most vulnerable citizens.
We have a lot of work ahead of us as the war continues. And with every new day we face new challenges. So, let's not lose our commitment, faith and inspiration in our daily work. Let's unite and help each other not only to survive in these difficult times, but also to rebuild our lives, no matter what" - commented on the work of Caritas Ukraine in the Kyiv region, Fr Vyacheslav Grynevych, SAC.
