The project Veteran’s Family: introducing the families of missing military personnel to one another

The project Veteran’s Family: introducing the families of missing military personnel to one another

There is a kind of waiting that cannot be put on hold. It lives in everyday routines and in the constant hope for good news. With these feelings, the families of missing military personnel arrived for a new camp of the Veteran’s Family project.

Thirty-two participants, including eight children, came to our center in Zhytomyr region. Among them are wives, parents, and children of servicemen. Each family arrived with its own story, pain, and experience of living in uncertainty.

During the first days of the camp, the families quickly found connection and support in one another. Alongside individual meetings with psychologists, our specialists also held a group psychological session on the topic «Living with Ambiguous Loss». These meetings help participants feel supported and understand that they are not left alone with their emotions and experiences. The families have also already shared their expectations for the camp and had the chance to get to know each other better.

Our project team is working to help participants stabilize their emotional condition, regain a sense of control over their lives, and learn how to live through a long period of uncertainty.

Veteran’s Family is a project that brings veteran families together through habilitation camps for all family members. It creates a safe space for psychological support, shared living experiences, and restoring inner strength.

The initiative is implemented with the support of Caritas Germany and Caritas-Spes Ukraine.
