Since the very beginning of the Russia invasion, the centres of the ‘Caritas-Spes Ukraine’ Mission and the RCCiU parishes have launched an extensive network of help centres. The Mission has created humanitarian hubs and logistics routes as well as a network of transit routes for humanitarian aid distribution.
In the western regions, the Mission is housing and supporting IDPs, including arranging warming centres and providing food and meals for people waiting to cross the border. Central Ukraine has become a transit shelter for IDPs from Kyiv to the south, the north and the east. The Mission has arranged shelters for people and provided them with necessities. .
Over the last 27 days, the Mission has equipped 25 shelters in Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Volyn and Lviv Oblasts including four centres that provide refuge to the evacuated orphanages and homes for single mothers. The Mission continues to support 17 soup kitchens in Zakarpattia, Zaporizhzhia, Lviv and Volyn Oblasts, that warm meals for those in need. It has also continued to support the family-type children’s homes and the houses of mercy for the elderly.
The Mission is now preparing an appeal which will be focused on two key directions. The first direction is assistance for the communities remaining in the combat zones. The second direction is aimed at IDPs and provides the availability of shelters and necessities for people who have lost their homes. The Appeal also provides psychological support aimed at overcoming war traumas.
In a month since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Mission has provided assistance for 145,000 beneficiaries and has offered over 300,000 social services.
47,000 people have been given refuge in 26 shelters.

+51,900 people received hygiene kits, including 5250 baby hygiene kits.

The Religious Mission Caritas Spes of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine is one of 48 participants of the Caritas Europa Federation and is the member of Caritas Internationalis, the global confederation which unites 162 Catholic organisations. Caritas-Spes Ukraine works in all the regions, operating through the National Office, seven offices in the RCC dioceses and 34 centres which provide people with assistance regardless of their faith, skin colour, nationality, political convictions and outlooks.
