The Diploma for Services to the Ukrainian People was presented by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk. The awarding ceremony took place today, on October 4, in the House of the Metropolitan of the Sofia Kyivska National Reserve.
As the First Vice-Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament, Oleksandr Kornienko, noted, today's event was a sign of cooperation and dialogue, gratitude from the authorities and the Ukrainian people to religious communities and organizations that are highly trusted.
"During the difficult seven months of the war, we saw that your support, your good pastoral words are very important for Ukrainians both in the rear and at the front," Mr. Kornienko stated. He also added that this is the first time such an award has been given, but, he is sure, it will not be the last. "The cooperation between the legislative body and various religious organizations and communities is quite rich and deep. And this was especially evident during the war, when the authorities, together with the clergy, stood up to support and reassure people, and churches became a real refuge for Ukrainians."
We congratulate everyone involved. And let us remind you that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Caritas-Spes Ukraine Mission has provided more than 3,000,000 social services in shelters for IDPs, distributing food and hygiene kits, clothes and medicines. Today, we provide assistance to more than 15,000 settlements in 23 regions of Ukraine.
Thank you for your trust. Our ministry goes on.
