Merciful love continue

On the 13th day since the beginning of the Russian invasion, the situation in Ukraine is as follows: the civilian death toll is >2,690 people, including children >106. The number of wounded civilians is >13,300 people, including >930 children.The number of damaged both large and medium localities is 87. The most devastated areas are Kyiv and Zhytomyr dioceses (Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Chernihiv, Nizhyn, Irpin, Ivankiv, Bucha, Brovary, Vorzel, Hostomel, Bila Tserkva, Malyn, Vasylkiv, Borodyanka, Uman, Bobrovitsa, Baryshivka, Obukhiv, Hatne, Korosten, Ovruch, Chernyakhiv, Uzyn, Makariv). Among those are the cities with a critical humanitarian situation in the area: Irpin, Bucha, Borodyanka, Hostomel, Vorzel, Ivankiv, Chernihiv, Vasylkiv. Odesa and Simferopol diocese (Kherson, Mykolayiv). Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia diocese (Sumy, Kharkiv, Volnovakha, Mariupol, Okhtyrka, Stanitsa Luhanska, Shchastya, Severodonetsk, Konotop, Lebedyn, Melitopol, Trostyanets, Izyum).

The ‘Caritas-Spes Ukraine’ Mission has 34 offices fully operating. At present, we have only one centre not operating in Sumy. The others, including the temporary occupied city of Berdyansk, are working, making necessary corrections in accordance with the military operations. The Mission has adjusted the receiving of humanitarian cargoes. The total number of beneficiaries who have already got help accounts for 34,765 people. 1,229 people are being under the Mission’s guardianship. 9,140 people, including 2,683 children, have been sheltered through our centres. The approximate number of those who have been given humanitarian aid through partners, volunteers, hospitals etc accounts for 25,625 people (counting 8kg per 1 beneficiary). Over the period from 24.02.22 till 08.03.22 the centres have received UAH 1,770,000.

Kyiv and Zhytomyr Diocese 526 people have been given help (humanitarian aid and beneficiaries’ allowance). Over 1,000 social services have been provided. ‘Caritas-Spes Oleksandrivka’ (Zhytomyr Oblast). The Mercy Home is now housing 29 people (14 elderly people, 15 average ones). The Mission is fully operating and providing help to this people. The centre has received 20 tons of humanitarian cargo and is now fully supplied. ‘Caritas-Spes Zhytomyr’ has arranged 6 buses for the refugees from the outskirts of Kyiv (providing warm clothes, shoes, foods, medicine etc) and assisted 146 people. 146 people have been sheltered in Zhytomyr Professional Lyceum, which has been fully supplied. 26 multi-child families from Zhytomyr and Brusyliv have received humanitarian aid (foods and medicine). 190 boarding school inhabitants in the village of Khoroshiv have received foods. The humanitarian aid has also been provided to the city of Korosten and the village of Korchak. An individual humanitarian bus has been sent to the apostolic nunciature. The Social Centre of ‘Caritas-Spes Kyiv’. The conveyance of food packages is being carried out on the left bank of Kyiv. The assistance is given to the elderly, the disabled and the pensioners. 230 people have been given assistance. The Okhmadit Clinic has been given help (warm socks). The doctors at Chervonyi Khutir have also received medicine. The village of Bortnychi has received some produce.

Lviv Archdiocese ‘Caritas-Spes Lviv’ has been receiving humanitarian cargoes. It has already received 8 cargoes weighing 160 tons. The cargoes have ben directed to the ‘Caritas-Spes’ centres and the RCCiU parishes, from where the humanitarian buses are going to deliver the aid to the locations. At least 159 people are being provided with humanitarian aid. In Pnikut in Lviv Oblast, 40 children from 4 family-type children’s homes are being provided any help. Over the last 10 days of the military escalation, Caritas-Spes Yablunytsia’ has provided 2,500 IDPs (mostly women and children) with their services of any type. ‘The House of Hope’ mothers and children (59 people) in the village of Korotych have been evacuated. They have been sheltered in the village of Yazlivets. The Mission is providing them fully.

Lutsk Diocese 1,317 people have received their food packages, warm meals and hygiene items. They have also been provided with over 2,000 social services. ‘Caritas Lublin’ has reported sending 60 tons of humanitarian cargoes to Lutsk, with their further conveyance to the other centres of the Mission. ‘Caritas-Spes Lutsk St Peter and Paul Parish’ has stored up 5 tons of humanitarian aid, which has been distributed to different people. It has also been giving out foods. The volunteers have been supporting the people at the station in Kovel (warm drinks, food for 600 people). They have arranged their shelters and food for those hiding from the air-raid. ‘Caritas-Spes Zamplynnia’ has been housing 42 IDPs’s children, proving them with the shelter and food.

Mukachevo Diocese 1,170 people have received help. Over 1,500 social services have also been provided. ‘St Martin Caritas-Spes (‘Caritas-Spes Zakarpattia)’ has been providing a temporary shelter for IDPs. The village of Berehove has arranged the distribution of humanitarian aid (foods and goods for babies). It has also begun the receiving of humanitarian cargoes.

Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia Diocese 560 people have given assistance. Over 1,000 social services have been provided. Around 2,000 people gave addressed the centre of ‘Caritas-Spes Kharkiv’ for help. Over the last 24 hours, 200 people have been provided with help. Despite all the challenges (absence of heating and communication means), ‘Caritas-Spes Berdyansk’ have provided foods for 360 people (data received from Berdyanks over the last three days).

Odesa and Simferopol Diocese’ Caritas-Spes Odesa’ has been arranging their storehouse with humanitarian aid so that, in case of necessity, they could fully meet all the requirements of those in need. For the time being, they haven’t been inquired for food packages so much. Over the last 24 hours, 50 people have received them.

Kamyanets-Podilskyi diocese Over the last 24 hours, we have helped 213 people (sheltering them and providing the with food). 3 more family-type children’s homes, being sheltered now and housing 81 children, have been fully provided with foods and medicine.

At preset, the Mission is seeking any opportunities to convey humanitarian aid to the most devastated areas. It is also analysing any chances to arrange its logistics to evacuate the people from the combat zones.
