Project S.T.A.R.T (Skills – Training – Action – Results – Transformation)

Project geography: Brovary, Bucha, and Boryspil districts of the Kyiv region.

Duration: June 1, 2025 – May 31, 2026

The S.T.A.R.T. project, “Support for Micro/Small Businesses and Employment for Displaced Households in Ukraine - Phase II,” is being implemented with financial support from Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and in partnership with Caritas-Spes Kyiv.

The project provides for two main areas of assistance:

1. Employment assistance:

• Individual career counseling.
• Support in the job search process, resume and cover letter development.
• Organization of interactive group sessions with career counselors.

2. Support for local microbusinesses:

• Training for those who have a business idea, have recently started their own business, or want to revive a business that has suffered as a result of the war.
• Mentoring and consulting support.
• Opportunity to receive a microgrant ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 for those who have completed training and submitted a business plan (on a competitive basis).

During their participation in the programs, participants will have access to individual sessions with a psychologist and group classes aimed at supporting mental health and increasing motivational potential.

The project will contribute to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine's goal of protecting and restoring the livelihoods of 1.7 million people in Ukraine by 2025 by offering off-farm income opportunities with a view to “promoting long-term self- reliance.” The proposed approach is also consistent with IOM recommendations on integrating MHPSS (mental health and psychosocial support) assistance into livelihood support.

Within the framework of the project, 482 unique beneficiaries will receive support over a period of 12 months.
