"I trust that who is an instrument of destructive power will be punished, and the heavenly forces will help the people of a good will" - Svitlana from Odessa

Svitlana moved from Odessa. The day we publish this story, her daughter Kateryna was born.

We lived in a suburban area of Odessa, in the village of Lymanske, in a private house. Because we were expecting a second child, and the threat of war was very serious, especially after the New Year 2022, my husband and I prepared in advance for emergencies. My husband collected documents a month before the war, and I collected things for the maternity hospital. The car always had a full tank of fuel to get up at any moment.

Morning, February 24. We heard three explosions at the military unit near the Glory Memorial. At 6:30 a local deputy confirmed that the war had begun. We quickly made us ready and left the house at 8:30. Our son Ielysei precepted such a sudden escape from danger as a normal trip to the Carpathians. He loves to travel with his parents, with no understanding what is war, although I tried to explain it to him. Why do the strange "uncles" kill civilians and drop bombs on houses and kindergartens? Probably, a child's heart is full of love and kindness must remain innocent, and parents will keep heaven above him.

I have no parents, I lost them early. Therefore, I considered a magical corner in the Carpathian as a safe place, the camp "Caritas-Spes", where we rested in summer. We drove to the east of Ukraine for about 17 hours. First, we passed Uman, where military depots were burning. Clouds of smoke covered the sky. It was very dangerous there, so we made our way around the detour, a radius of about 60 kilometers, on inconspicuous roads, we kept our way through the suffering country. Near Kamenets-Podilsky, one could hear the shelling of a local hydroelectric power plant. Its destruction could cause a real catastrophe.

During the trip, I felt very anxious because of the uncertainty and concern for the children. But I tried to stay calm so as not to frighten Ielysei and not to harm the unborn child. My husband and I have been waiting for her and have even chosen her name - Kateryna. So I tried to catch my breath so that she would be all right.

For us Ukrainians, this is a war for liberation. Our land has been attacked and we must fight for it. The enemy army targeted units in our native Odessa from both directions, Crimea and Transnistria. To seize the South of Ukraine and the access to the seas, is a cherished dream of the invaders and they are trying to make it in any way. That's why they capture Mariupol and Mykolayiv to pick up Odessa and take it. We now have the anti-tank military "hedgehogs" near the pearl of architecture, Odessa Opera House. Our army is ready to defend.

The war is a tragic event, but I want to look to the future with optimism for the sake of the children. I believe that in these torments the nation is being formed, the power is being cleansed of those who care only about themselves, for whom their own pocket is more precious than Motherland and human life. Faith allows us to endure any trials. Scripture tells us about the coming of the last days on Earth, with wars and diseases. We must remain steadfast and hope for salvation. I believe that who what sow, this he will reap. Who is an instrument of destructive power will be punished, and the heavenly forces will help the people of a good will. And I hope that my daughter will be born in time and live a long and happy life, together with other children of our wonderful country.
