Project activities
The Project supported the work of 5 shelters in the Lviv Archdiocese, 1 in the Diocese of Kyiv-Zhytomyr and 1 in the Diocese of Kamianets-Podilskyi, providing short- and long-term accommodation and hot meals for temporarily displaced persons and those who have been left homeless due to the war. During the project implementation period, 489 people received assistance, which in turn amounted to 95,135 person-nights.
The project also helped shelters to carry out routine maintenance, repair and upgrade premises and furniture.
With the partial or full support of the Emergency Appeal Project, 7 soup kitchens of the Religious Mission continued their work in Lviv, Zhytomyr, Berehove, Mukachevo, Solotvyno (Kobyletska Polyana, Sorochyy Brid), Vynohradiv and Tyachiv. The project provided 95,100 hot meals to 1,084 people in need of systematic and long-term assistance in form of cooked lunches.
Consultations were provided to 265 individuals.
This type of assistance was implemented in the Dioceses of Kamianets-Podilskyi, Lutsk, Kyiv-Zhytomyr and the Archdiocese of Lviv and reached 1,980 children.
In 2023, in addition to supporting the activities of children's spaces, local centres also organised a series of special events for children. These events were dedicated to the International Children's Day, environmental issues and such significant holidays for every child as St Nicholas Day and Christmas. In total, Caritas-Spes Ukraine teams organised 29 events, which were attended by 1601 beneficiary children.
The aim of the programme was to help those most in need of health support the most, and 25 centres in 7 dioceses of Ukraine took part in its implementation.
Liki24, a leading domestic platform for searching, purchasing and delivering medicines, was chosen as a partner of the activity. A total of 6,693 people received vouchers in the amount UAH 1,450 for the online purchase of medicines and medical supplies.
The delivery of goods purchased with vouchers was completely free for project beneficiaries and covered all parts of the unoccupied territory of Ukraine.
The School Bag and Early Development Kits programmes of the Project were implemented by the Caritas-Spes Ukraine team in 7 dioceses of Ukraine. The goal is to help IDP families and families living near the contact line prepare their children for the new school year. The School Bag kits are designed for children aged 7 to 12 years, and the Early Development kits are for children under 7 years. A total of 1,700 School Kits and 750 Early Development Kits were delivered under the two programmes.
The winterisation component started with the distribution of 200 stoves to the neediest beneficiary families whose homes were destroyed or damaged because of the hostilities in Dnipropetrovska, Kharkivska, Khersonska, Cherkaska and Chernihivska oblasts.
The Warm Bed Kits Programme (blanket, pillow and bed linen set) continues this component, with a total of 850 sets to be distributed.
To provide critical support to the most vulnerable citizens, who are particularly affected by the war, and to ensure their resilience during the cold season, the In-kind Food and Hygiene Assistance and Vouchers for Food and Hygiene Products Programmes were implemented.
Between November and December 2023, 9,224 people received 1 kit of hygiene products and 9,597 people received 3 food kits.
The Vouchers for Food and Hygiene Products Programmes was in effect from December 2023 to March 2024. It covered 17,600 people, each of whom received 2 certificates for the purchase of hygiene products and groceries at one of the country's largest supermarket chains, "ATB".
